Can I keep my step children while my husband is on harvest?

My husband is considering taking a job with a harvest crew to increase his income. He currently has residential custody of his three children. I am wondering if I can keep them with me even tho he is gone for long periods of time as long as I follow the parenting plan and visitation schedule. Can biological mom take us to court for dad not being around as much. This would only be a temporary job.
